How do I add or remove text-message codes?
Add, replace, or remove the phone number used for optional security codes.
Text-message codes are optional. They can act as a second factor during sign-in and as a security check before sensitive account changes. SMS is less resistant to account takeover than a passkey or authenticator app, so use one of those when practical.
- Open Settings → Security.
- Complete the identity check with your password, email code, passkey, authenticator, or current text-message code.
- Enter a phone number in international format and request a code.
- Enter the code to enable text-message verification. To replace a number, remove the old one first and then add the new one.
SMS never acts as the only recovery channel. A verified email can still receive a magic link, and passkey or authenticator enrollment also provides a recovery code.
